Sherwood 0 – 3 Attenborough Colts

In torrential rain, Sherwood started their second match of the season against Attenborough Colts. These are always tight matches with close score-lines. But the magic touch wasn’t there this morning with the squad heavy footed and uncommunicative. This isn’t to say that there weren’t some solid performances. Tyler in particular was impressive with his robust headers (notice how he always holds his arms out in front of him as he gets into position – almost as if he’s praying).

Attenborough scored first but their second was disallowed as offside. Phew.  Sherwood ended the first half 1-0 down and with three strong subs available, there was plenty of hope for the second half.

By now the rain had stopped and the sun had come out. Orange halves (team) and lemon cake (supporters) were circulated and the second half got off to a good start. We had several chances on goal and seemed to be dominating play. Thomas and Connor put up an excellent show in defence with Charlie (‘face protection, honest’) Luke, Lewis, Nico, Ryan, Jack and Kel all putting the pressure on the Attenborough goal. There were countless corners but unfortunately none of them led to an equaliser.  Into the last ten minutes, with pressure mounting, Attenborough exploited a confused defence to secure a 2-0 lead. Minutes later and they made it three, leaving Sherwood no opportunity for a fight-back.

Not one to remember – but certainly a respectable performance and a very tight second half until the final minutes.
