Sherwood 3 – 7 Carlton Town Lions

Sherwood are struggling to get into their stride this season with general fitness still a major issue every time we are short on numbers. This was certainly part of the problem today with Lewis and Luke unwell and Kel not fully match-fit after his hip injury from 2 weeks ago. Whereas in previous seasons the second half had often seen a successful Sherwood fight-back, this season is seeing us fade second half due to fatigue.

The first half saw the teams evenly matched. Carlton Town were first onto the scoreboard with a low ball that slipped from the goalkeeper’s grasp to roll through his legs.  Shortly afterwards Patrick was off with a nasty stud gash to his leg, and Tyler put on the green shirt to take his place. That was it - no further subs available.  Sherwood pressed on, with Jordan scoring his first of the season with a nifty tap amidst a goalmouth scramble.  Carlton charged back to make it 2-1 but Kel demonstrated his usual flair to make it 2-2 at half-time.

We were cautiously optimistic for the second half with Patrick back on, Tyler dominant in mid-field and Nico continuing to demonstrate his incredibly athletic skills at tackling and clearing the ball mid-turn.  Carlton pushed ahead, Kel equalised, the Ref commenting that the game was like a boxing match. But once Carlton had made it 4-3 we seemed to lose the plot. Despite encouragement from Management and supporters, legs were failing and spirits sinking in the drizzle. Carlton made the most of it and pushed the score onwards to 7-3.

Man of the Match: Thomas for consistently good work in defence.

Well done everyone and keep your spirits up. Early nights next Friday please!
