Sherwood FC 1 – 6 Clifton All Whites
The wind huffed and it puffed and it nearly knocked us all down today. This match will be memorable for all the wrong reasons; Debs valiantly trying the clear the pitch of dog waste; Charlie’s little brother suffering a stray ball in his face; the spectators shivering in a bitter wind raging across the top pitch at Southglade. Most of us were heartily relieved when it was all over.
But the football was actually quite exciting. Sherwood had the wind direction to their advantage in the first half and this showed with us ending the first 35 minutes one goal ahead; a nifty Brandon finish from a Jordan set-up. Lex didn’t have much to do down his end. But the second half was a different story. Clifton made best use of a very strong wind that added considerable pace to the ball. They quickly equalised and then managed to forge ahead with a final score of 6-1.
But Sherwood can be reasonably happy with their performance. There was some excellent play from all with Neil awarding the Man of the Match award jointly to Jordan and Thomas for some fantastic goal-line clearances.
