Sherwood Red 3 – 3 Holy Spirit
Kel is slacking. Against Attenborough it took him a whole one minute and twenty seconds to put Sherwood ahead. This morning Jordan, aka ‘The Boot’ (also alias Michael), managed it in less than a minute (we think, as no one was counting). Yet despite this magic moment, Sherwood struggled against Holy Spirit, a team of giants against whom we have had some great matches over many years. The teams were evenly matched with play hurtling from end to end relentlessly. We were lucky to cling to our lead up to the half-time whistle.
Fairly soon after the second half commenced, we were awarded a penalty which Kel pile-drived into the roof of the net via the goalkeeper. But the lead was not to last. Charlie was forced off the pitch with a knee injury and without him battling in mid-field, our coordination seemed to evaporate. Tyler tried desperately to organise the team but Holy Spirit forced their way back to 2-all.
Kel pushed us ahead again with a trademark run through the defence and tap home. Could we hold on to the end? Unfortunately not. Just moments before the full-time whistle Holy Spirit scored the equaliser leaving Sherwood relieved that we had managed to cling on to a point.
Thomas was awarded Man of the Match for determined work in defence. Two matches into the season and we have 4 points from the 2 teams relegated from Division 3a. The signs are positive.
