Sherwood FC 5 –  2 Holy Spirit Celtic

Sherwood played another great match this afternoon to position ourselves firmly in mid-table and show again just how much we have improved since last season. Neil and Steve were justifiably proud of a strong team effort that saw some super passing and effective tackling.

Holy Spirit were first on the scoreboard just a few minutes in and Sherwood hearts sank a little. But then Jack ‘Skywalker’ Staples used the force and equalised, causing Princess Debs to weep with joy (quick Jack – whatever expensive gizmo you’re after, now’s the time).

Brandon was up next reacting to a sequence of passes: Lewis passed to Luke, who passed to Kel, who worked round the back of the Holy Spirit defence, tipped it over into the middle to Brandon for the finish. Nice football.

Holy Spirit equalised giving a 2-2 score at half time.

The second half started poorly with an alarming hole opening up in mid-field. Patrick and the defence were on constant alert with Lewis having to jump in for another goal-line clearance. But some strategic substituting by the Management put Sherwood firmly back in control with Ryan moving back to midfield and Thomas resuming his position in defence.

An invigorated squad, supported by a very excited group of MaDs, then forged ahead to provide Kel with the opportunities he needed to put another three goals past the Holy Spirit keeper. Connor was notable for his high-quality and accurate passing which enabled our forwards to break through their back line.

The final score was 5-2. Well done everyone.

Man of the Match:  Lewis.
