Sherwood 2 – 1 Holy Celtic Green

With Thomas and Oscar absent, Leon booked for goalkeeping duties in the second half, our outfield options were limited.  The first half team comprised Patrick, Mac and Jamie in defence, Kieran midfield and Alfie, Jordan and Kellum up front. The first 10-15 minutes saw general midfield action with shots at both ends and some good last minute defending. After about 15 minutes a break on the right resulted in Kellum scoring the opening goal. Holy Spirit fought back but were unable to equalise. There were some good saves from Patrick and the first half ended 1-0 to Sherwood.

In the second half Leon was in goal with Aadam and Alfie in defence, Kieran in midfield, Kellum, Jordan and Nico up front. Sherwood started off the more vibrant team and within 10 minutes Kellum had doubled his tally for the day to put Sherwood 2-0 up. Holy Spirit redoubled their efforts and went on the offensive. Neil reorganised positions with Mac substituting for Jordan but moving into defence to push Alfie up front. Holy Spirit kept up the pressure and a defensive lapse gave them a long ranged shot that sailed past a helpless Leon. The last 5 minutes were tense but Sherwood’s stronger attack managed to keep the ball in the Holy Spirit half. The final result was 2-1 to Sherwood.

Ep’s words of wisdom:  ‘A tense game which we managed to win but only just. Don’t underestimate the opposition – they will be wanting revenge next week and Sherwood will have to step up a gear.’
