Sherwood 2 – 3 Holy Spirit Celtic
What a close match this one was. Holy Spirit needed all their prayers to secure victory from the most even match we’ve played for a while. Sherwood had several near misses on a muddy, soggy pitch that saw many of the lads literally slide tackling. Kel got the first goal of the match allowing Sherwood to savour a brief lead before Holy Spirit equalised. They then pushed ahead with a fantastic goal that slipped from Patrick’s grasp. The second half saw H on a mission as he tore from end to end of the pitch with a couple of spectacular runs. Far from running out of steam, Sherwood upped their pace to give the MaDs some real excitement. Some goalmouth scrambles and near misses from Jordan and Kieran made for some heart stopping moments. Holy Spirit made it 3-1 but Sherwood responded with a neat goal from Alfie Mac. Our defence stuck valiantly to it with Leon notable for some great clearances and Alfie P diving and catching effectively in goal. The match ended 3-2 to Holy Spirit. But it was a fab match – everyone played well under the military supervision of the Royal Navy ref!
