Sherwood 2 – 3 Parkhill Reds

It was a frustratingly nail-biting match this morning as Sherwood struggled to find their form after so many weeks without a match. Everyone was tense, parental blood pressure was high, and what was going on with those shoelaces?

Sherwood were the first to get onto the scoreboard with a blistering turn from Jordan. In seamless succession he tore up the flank, lost possession in the box but was swiftly back into the action and blasting one home. Mr. and Mrs. Manager glowed with pride!

Jordan’s run was the magic moment in a scrappy first half that saw some good saves from Patrick, tigerish defence from Oscar and Thomas and several near misses from Alfie and Kellum. At half-time the score was 1-1.

The second half saw more of the same; nifty footwork from Nico and Kel, strong defence from Leon and Thomas, and a whole stream of corners being set up by Kieran and Alfie. For a time Sherwood held a 2-1 lead courtesy of Kel and Patrick who deflected a fantastic shot from Parkhill’s number 7. But Parkhill maintained their concentration and capitalised on Sherwood’s lack of match play. Sherwood could not stop them in midfield – even Mac was called in to assist with a startling header from the sub’s bench!

Neil made several substitutions as Sherwood flagged, bringing Mac back on late in the second half to try and galvanise the attack. But it proved too little and Parkhill secured the 3 points with a deserved 3-2 victory.

As the boss said in the post-match analysis, Sherwood were tired and disorganised. Positions were not held and the pace lacking. Fitness will be the theme at training next week.

But let’s also say a big well done to the Parkhill goalie. He had a rotten match with accidental studdings and balls in the face. We hope the return match will see fewer tears shed!
