Sherwood 3 – 2 Parkhill Reds

Wow – what a storm of a match!  Sherwood blitzed onto the pitch this evening determined to give their all for this penultimate game of the season. With adrenalin pumping through players and supporters alike Sherwood were clearly out to level the score against Parkhill (who beat us 3-2 back in February).  It was a fabulously exciting and close match – every single player had his magic moment. Jordan had the first near miss while it was Nico who put Sherwood’s first goal home, to level the score in the first half. Captain Thomas was on top form, firing power kicks from end to end and shouting instructions to his team. Alfie was a speed demon with truly awesome pace. Kieran and Kellum, coming on in the second half, demonstrated their superb tackling and crossing skills, setting up so many chances that just went wide. Mac had his own near misses and worked doggedly to support his colleagues and keep the ball up the Parkhill end. Patrick was kept busy in goal with impressive efforts in each half – in the first a tip onto the bar and, in the second, the  deflection of a full-on blast round the post (to the applause of the opposition’s management). As for Aadam ‘Golden Boots’ Aaftab, what can we say – two superb goals to secure a 3-2 victory for Sherwood!

Considering that this match came at the end of a School day, the energy and enthusiasm of the team was remarkable. The excitement built steadily throughout the evening, encapsulated towards the end of the second half when both goalies decided to join in the mid-field action (Patrick’s foray almost causing Neil a heart attack!).

Well done all – fabulous football (and a fabulous Ref too!!!). Let’s end the season with another match like this on Saturday.
