Sherwood FC 6 – 2 Pegasus Youth
Four points from four games! Was this the breakthrough morning? The scores are certainly going in the right direction. So far we’ve lost 5-2 to Lowdham, 4-1 to Trowell, drawn 4-4 with Burton Joyce and now managed a convincing win over Pegasus Youth. But they were certainly no push over (they pulverised us last time we met) and their goalkeeper was superb. After 4 matches we know have as many points as we managed in the entire season last year.
Every Sherwood lad gave it his all today and Neil and Steve were able to benefit from a full squad with four subs available (and soon Charlie and Brandon will be playing too). The first half was especially strong with Sherwood dominant. Their passing was superb with the goals coming from excellent set-ups (including several from Ryan). Kel scored the first two goals with Alfie banging home a third. Pegasus didn’t give up but Sherwood showed an increasing willingness to tackle with Thomas doing a ‘Bobby Moore’ (apparently a last ditch clearance just outside the penalty box).
The half-time score was 4-1 to Sherwood.
Sherwood slowed their pace a little in the second half, allowing Pegasus to make it 4-2. Management nerves were fraying at this point! But they held on to secure victory with a further two goals from Kel (giving him a tally of 5). Chopper delivered a neat goal assist and Nico narrowly missed a goal from one of his superb free kicks.
Well done Sherwood. You were truly impressive this morning – Ref Andrew, spectating for a change, noted the vast improvement on last year while the serving Ref, ‘Royal Navy man’ picked out Ryan for his impressive performance in mid-field. But everyone else was just as good too – Tom proving effective on the wing, Connor tackling like a demon, Jack as speedy as ever.... A fantastic show.
