Sherwood 5 – 1 Riverside Rookies

At last Sherwood have broken their run of defeats with a convincing win over a much improved Riverside. We didn’t have it all our own way – especially in the first few minutes of the second half, Riverside took command and whacked in an excellent goal to keep their spirits up. But it was Sherwood’s superior skill that kept the valiant Riverside goalie busy for most of the match.

Communication and position were much improved with pundit Tess commenting on how good it was to see them using the space. Kel got Sherwood onto the scoreboard with a nifty touch amidst a goalmouth scramble, A few minutes later Tyler made it 2 with a finish from a Kel cross; these two seem to be forming a good partnership up front.  Tyler made it 3-0 and there the score stayed for the remainder of the half although Luke had two very near misses, both of which were caught by the Riverside goalkeeper.

Riverside dominated the first few minutes of the second half and it was Jack and Tom S who forced Sherwood to concentrate on building rather than throwing away their lead. Both had near misses with one of Tom’s coming from an excellent corner cross from Thomas. Kel made it 4-1 while Tom S just kept on trying (it could have been 4!).  Ryan put the ball in the net but had his goal disallowed as off-side. Charlie had a near miss but it was Tyler (or was it Kel, they were so close we couldn’t really tell) who made it 5-1.

Good work Sherwood. Kel and Tyler may have got the goals but they couldn’t have done it without the strong defence of Connor, Thomas, Tom Hutton, Lewis and Nico, the midfield skills of Charlie and Luke, Jack and Ryan down the wings and of course Jordan and Tom S up front.
